  • DESCRIPTION
    The National Sugar Development Council (NSDC), established in 1993, is the
    technical body of the federal Ministry of Industry’s sugar sub sector.
    The main objective of the NSDC is to organize and co-ordinate all the operations
    related to the development of the sugar sub-sector. Currently, substantial
    funds are being invested in cane development, improvement of infrastructure
    and factory rehabilitation.


    OBJECTIVE
    The main objectives of the STDRC as stated in Chapter 6 of the National
    Sugar Policy are:
    • To establish plans for building a comprehensive information center on all
    technical and policy issues relating to sugar for the use of scientists, instruc
    tors and trainees of the STRDC;
    • To ensure the introduction of sustainable agronomic practices to both pre
    serve and enhance the productivity of the available soil resources;
    • To assist in the development of the National Sugar Master Plan (NSMP) for
    Nigeria to meet 75% of the local consumption.


    KETS ROLE
    • Infrastructure requirements for a research and training center.
    • Organization Structure for the center.
    • A training program for the research center cadre.
    • Assist in the development of the National Sugar Master Plan (NSMP) for
    Nigeria to meet 75% of the local consumption.


    ACHIEVMENTS
    KETS managed to complete the revision of the NSMP which has been developed
    by the local consultant. Moreover, the client decided to move forward
    and implement the plan. Subsequently, KETS prepared a detailed feasibility
    study which included the technical and financial documents.
    Moreover, KETS prepared an EPM proposal and a complete manpower plan
    for the project establishment.
